Why this shape
The old chef coat was cut straight and stiff because nobody expected it to move. This one puts stretch panels down the sides — the exact place a cook's ribs expand reaching across a pass — and splits the back longer so bending does not pull the hem out of your waistband. A snap front opens in one motion when something goes down your chest, which a button placket cannot do. The chambray inner collar is the small detail that decides whether you still want it on in hour ten.
- Good for
- Open kitchens, chef's table service and anywhere the coat is seen as much as it is worked in.
- Not for
- Heavy fry or grill stations in white — a light colourway shows the first splash and stays showing it.
- Care
- Machine wash and tumble dry on the commercial cycle a uniform actually sees. Skip softener on the stretch panels; it closes the weave that makes them breathe.
