Why this shape
Lodge builds these for the fire rather than the stovetop: stainless throughout, so there is no wood scale or plastic joint to char when you rest them across a grate, and nothing to trap grease where a coating would peel. Coals and food get the same tool, which is what you want at a fire where you are already carrying too much.
- Good for
- Live fire, charcoal, campfire cooking and anything where a plastic joint would melt.
- Not for
- Delicate plating — full stainless with no cushioning is a blunt instrument next to a fine kitchen tong.
- Care
- Lodge publishes these as easy to clean stainless; wash and dry so the hinge does not carry ash into the next cook.
