Why this shape
A relaxed straight leg is the working cut: it gives the knee room to drop to a low shelf and does not bind at the thigh when you step over a hose. The elastic waistband with a drawstring holds a position all shift where a button waist slides as the day goes on, and reinforced knees put the extra fabric exactly where a cook wears through first. Ankle length keeps the hem out of standing water instead of wicking it up.
