Why this shape

The ChefAlarm is a leave-in, not an instant-read — the Pro-Series probe stays inside the meat through the cook so the cook is not opening the lid every ten minutes to plunge a ThermoPop back into the brisket and lose the bark. A six-foot silicone-jacketed cable runs from the probe through the closed oven or grill lid to the body, so the cable survives 700°F while the ABS housing stays outside the heat, and a 92-decibel alarm is loud enough to hear across a busy kitchen or a backyard grill. The NIST-traceable calibration certificate ships in the box — every ChefAlarm leaves the factory with a verified accuracy statement, not a marketing claim — and the unit reads across -58°F to 572°F with ±1.8°F precision across the cooking band. A count-up-and-down timer runs alongside the alarm, so the same device tracks both temperature and dwell without a second tool.

Good for
Low-and-slow briskets and pork butts on a smoker, oven roasts that need a high-heat alarm and a low-heat pull, deep-frying turkey where the alarm fires the moment the oil hits target, bread-baking proofing boxes held to a narrow band, candy work where ten degrees is the difference between soft-ball and Thread.
Not for
Searing on a flat-top where the cook wants a one-second reading and a probe cable would burn in a second. Reach for the ThermoPop 2 or Thermapen ONE recorded alongside for that work.
Care
IP65 splash-resistant (excluding probe connector). Wipe clean with a damp cloth; do not submerge the body. The probe and cable are oven and grill safe to 700°F; the body stays outside the heat. ThermoWorks publishes this verbatim on the product page.
