Why this shape

A working edge does not go dull so much as it rolls over, and a rod pushes it back straight — that is why a cook who hones daily sharpens a few times a year instead of monthly. Ceramic is the gentle choice against a hard Japanese blade: a grooved steel rod bites and can chip a thin high-hardness edge, where a smooth ceramic surface realigns without taking material. Ten inches clears a 210mm chef knife in one pass, and the G10 handle is the same material that survives on knife scales.

Good for
Daily upkeep on chef knives and santoku, especially hard Japanese edges a grooved steel would chip.
Not for
Restoring a genuinely blunt knife — honing moves an edge back into line, it does not create a new one. That is stone work.
Care
Wipe it after use and keep it hanging or in a drawer where the rod cannot knock against other metal.
