Why this shape
A loose edge in a drawer is the most common way a good knife goes dull: steel knocking against steel rolls the apex long before use does. A modular holder gives each edge its own channel and keeps the spine up where fingers land, which solves the dulling and the danger with the same piece. Modular is the useful part — the large piece takes the long blades and small pieces fill around it, so the layout follows the knives you own rather than a fixed block.
- Good for
- Drawer storage for chef knives, santoku and slicers, and any kitchen with no counter space for a block.
- Not for
- Carrying knives out of the house — a drawer insert is not a roll, and it will not protect an edge in transit.
- Care
- Wipe out crumbs and dry the channels before returning a washed edge, so nothing sits damp against the metal.
